It changes who is in the group chat, who books the table, and whether the planner itself is a secret. The pre-trip list puts this second, right after dates, because every later step depends on it.

What should a birthday trip itinerary include?
Beyond where you stay: the locked birthday-dinner table, one activity the birthday person actually wants, cake logistics (who orders it, who carries it), and a who-paid budget column. The planner carries all of it so the group chat does not have to.
How do we handle the birthday person's share of the costs?
Agree it upfront: it is a line on the pre-trip list. If the group covers them, log their share against the others in the who-paid split; the table does the maths either way, and nobody has the awkward conversation at brunch.
Does it work in Google Sheets?
Yes. Open the .xlsx in Google Sheets and the formulas, split table and checklists carry over. For a surprise trip, Sheets also makes it easy to share with everyone except one person.
