Which festivals in Spain are worth planning a trip around, and when are they in 2027? Start with the big four. Las Fallas fills Valencia from March 15 to 19, and Semana Santa (Holy Week) runs in Seville from March 21 to 28. San Fermín follows in Pamplona from July 6 to 14, and La Tomatina in Buñol on August 25 (expected). Book rooms in Pamplona, Valencia and Seville months ahead, and buy a La Tomatina ticket when sales open. If you can make only one trip, go in March: Las Fallas and Holy Week fall in one fortnight in 2027.

Across Spain:Semana Santa, Seville
- Book rooms six months to a year ahead for San Fermín, Las Fallas, Semana Santa in Seville and the Feria de Abril.
- 2027 is a Holy Year in Santiago de Compostela. July 25 falls on a Sunday, so expect a busy year on the Camino and in the city.
- Tenerife's carnival is late in 2027. The street carnival runs from February 19 to 28, after Ash Wednesday.
Spain's most famous festivals, with 2027 dates
La Tomatina, Buñol
Major festival
- Where: Buñol, near Valencia
- 2027 dates: August 25, 2027, from noon to 1 pm (the last Wednesday of August; Buñol has published only August 26, 2026 so far)
- Tickets: required; entry was capped at 22,000 people in 2026
- Official site: latomatina.info
On the last Wednesday of August, La Tomatina turns the streets of Buñol into one hour of throwing overripe tomatoes. The fight has been held every year since 1945.
Before the battle starts, the bravest climb a soaped pole for the leg of ham tied to the top. Trucks bring the tomatoes in at noon, and a shot ends the battle an hour later. Tickets sell out, so buy yours on the official site when sales open.
The battle lasts an hour and needs a ticket, so treat it as a day out from Valencia rather than a stay in Buñol. Wear old clothes and goggles.

San Fermín, Pamplona
Major festival
- Where: Pamplona, Navarre
- 2027 dates: July 6 to 14, 2027; bull runs at 8 am, July 7 to 14
- Tickets: the bull run is free to watch from the route; the evening bullfights are ticketed
- Official site: Pamplona tourism
- Book: a room over the bull run can cost up to $2,000 a night
San Fermín fills Pamplona for nine days, from the opening rocket at noon on July 6 to midnight on July 14. Every morning from July 7 at 8 am, the bulls run 848 meters through the old town to the bullring, in about three minutes.
The bulls that run each morning are killed in that afternoon's bullfight. Runners and onlookers are injured most years. Watch from behind the barricades, from a rented balcony or from inside the bullring at the end of the route. Get to the barriers well before 8.
For a short visit, come for July 6 and 7: the opening rocket at noon and the first bull run the next morning. Dress like Pamplona: white with a red scarf around the neck. On the last night, stay for the "Pobre de mí", when the crowd in the town hall square sings the fiesta out by candlelight.

Las Fallas, Valencia
Major festival
- Where: Valencia
- 2027 dates: March 15 to 19, 2027; daily mascletà at 2 pm from March 1; the Crida opens the season on February 28
- Official site: Junta Central Fallera
On the night of March 19, Las Fallas burns all but one of the more than 700 satirical figures in Valencia's streets, some up to 20 meters tall. The festival has been on UNESCO's intangible heritage list since 2016.
The biggest monuments stand only from March 16 to 19, so arrive by the 16th. The flower offering to the Virgin fills Plaza de la Virgen on the 17th and 18th. On the night of the 18th, the Nit del Foc fireworks light the old Turia riverbed. The cremà starts at 8 pm on the 19th, a public holiday in the Valencia region.
For a mascletà (a daytime barrage of firecrackers you feel in your chest), be in Plaza del Ayuntamiento well before 2 pm. Eat buñuelos, the fritters of the festival, between monuments. Fallas ends two days before Holy Week starts in 2027, so you can go on to Seville for it.

Semana Santa, Seville
Major festival
- Where: all of Spain; Seville is the best known, with Málaga, Valladolid, Zamora, Cuenca and León
- 2027 dates: March 21 to 28, 2027; Holy Thursday, March 25, and Good Friday, March 26, are public holidays
- Tickets: free on the street; chairs and boxes on Seville's official route are sold by the Consejo de Hermandades y Cofradías
- Book: rooms and restaurant tables well ahead
From March 21 to 28, 2027, Semana Santa in Seville sends 71 brotherhoods and about 50,000 robed nazarenos through the streets. Teams of costaleros carry the pasos (carved floats of Christ and the Virgin) from each brotherhood's church to the cathedral and back.
The processions run every afternoon and night, and every brotherhood must pass along the official route from Calle Campana to the cathedral. Plan Seville around the night of Holy Thursday into Good Friday, la Madrugá, when the Macarena and the Esperanza de Triana come out. Expect long waits.
Away from the official route, you can watch a procession from any street it passes, free. Listen for saetas, the flamenco songs sung to the images from balconies.

Batalla del Vino, Haro
- Where: the Riscos de Bilibio hills outside Haro, La Rioja
- 2027 dates: June 29, 2027, St Peter's Day; the party starts the night before
Haro's wine battle soaks a hillside crowd in red Rioja on the morning of June 29, St Peter's Day. The weapons are buckets, bottles and water pistols full of wine.
After a mass on the hill, the two sides throw wine at each other until midday, then walk back into Haro to Plaza de la Paz. Later in the day there is a run with cows in an arena.
Dress in white you can throw away, with a red bandana. The wine is Rioja, and Haro sits in La Rioja, so stay a day for its bodegas.

Feria de Abril, Seville
Major festival
- Where: the Real de la Feria fairground, Seville
- 2027 dates: April 13 to 18, 2027, with the alumbrao on the night of April 12; Seville's Feria holiday is April 14
- Tickets: free to enter; most casetas are private, and the tourist board runs a public caseta with tables to book
- Official site: Seville tourism
In mid-April 2027, the Feria de Abril fills a fairground of 1,052 casetas, the striped marquees where Seville eats, drinks and dances sevillanas for a week. The fair opens when the lights of the Real go on, the night of the alumbrao, and closes with fireworks by the Guadalquivir.
The fair falls two weeks after Holy Week, so the early Easter of 2027 pulls it to mid-April. The Feria also opens Seville's bullfighting season at La Real Maestranza. Most casetas need an invitation, but district and party casetas let anyone in.
Book a table at the tourist board's public caseta. On the opening night, eat pescaíto frito (small fried fish) with a glass of sherry.

Tamborrada, San Sebastián
- Where: San Sebastián (Donostia), Basque Country
- 2027 dates: midnight on January 19 to midnight on January 20, 2027
At midnight on January 19, the raising of the city flag in Plaza de la Constitución starts the Tamborrada, 24 hours of drumming in San Sebastián. Drum companies dressed as soldiers and cooks march through the streets all night and all the next day.
Of the 15 festivals here, the Tamborrada is the one whose main days fall in January. Be in Plaza de la Constitución before midnight on the 19th for the start, and pack earplugs if you plan to sleep.
Between drum parades, eat your way through the old town's pintxo bars; the Spain food guide has what to order.

Carnaval de Cádiz
- Where: Cádiz, Andalusia
- 2027 dates: February 4 to 14, 2027; contest final at the Gran Teatro Falla, February 5; Cabalgata Magna parade, February 7
- Tickets: the street performances are free; some seating needs a ticket
- Official site: Cádiz tourism
From February 4 to 14, 2027, the Cádiz carnival fills the streets of Cádiz with songs. Its chirigotas, comparsas and coros sing, in Spain's tourism board's words, "songs full of irony and criticism that are written by the different groups who participate in the fiesta".
The official groups compete for weeks in the Gran Teatro Falla before the street carnival. Unofficial groups, the ilegales, sing on any corner without a stage or a timetable.
Walk the La Viña quarter, Plaza de San Antonio and the Mercado Central, and stop wherever a crowd has formed around a group. In 2027 Cádiz ends on February 14 and the Tenerife street carnival starts on the 19th, so you can do both: Cádiz for the songs, Tenerife for the costumes.

San Isidro, Madrid
- Where: Madrid
- 2027 dates: around May 15, 2027, San Isidro's Day, and the days before it
- Official site: Spain's tourism board
Madrid celebrates its own fiesta, San Isidro, on May 15 and the days before it. Madrileños dress as chulapos and chulapas and picnic in the Pradera de San Isidro. Concerts and verbenas (open-air dances) fill the Pradera, Las Vistillas and Plaza Mayor at night.
The concerts, parades and dances in the squares are free, so a Madrid trip around May 15 gets a fiesta at no extra cost. The bullfights that open Madrid's season are paid.
Join the picnic in the Pradera with a bag of rosquillas, small sugared rings, and watch couples dance the chotis. Around midnight, fireworks go up over the Retiro.

Carnaval de Santa Cruz de Tenerife
- Where: Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands
- 2027 dates: street carnival February 19 to 28, 2027; opening gala, January 22; Carnival Tuesday, February 23, a local holiday
- Official site: carnavaldetenerife.com
In 2027 the street carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife runs late, from February 19 to 28. The city moved it to after Ash Wednesday, February 10, so do not book on the usual week.
The season opens with a gala on January 22, and at the Carnival Queen gala costumes can weigh over 100 kilograms. The big parade, the Coso, is on Carnival Tuesday.

La Mercè, Barcelona
- Where: Barcelona
- 2027 dates: around September 24, 2027, the city's holiday (the 2026 edition ran from September 23 to 27); Mexico City is the 2027 guest city
- Tickets: most events are free
- Official site: barcelona.cat/merce
Barcelona puts on more than 500 activities for La Mercè, its biggest fiesta, around September 24. Human towers, the castells, rise in Plaça de Sant Jaume. Giants parade, and in the correfoc devils run through the streets with fireworks.
The correfoc runs along Via Laietana at nightfall. Wear clothes that can take a few sparks and safety glasses if you want to stand close. The Tarragona human-tower contest is held only in even years, so La Mercè is the place to see castells in autumn 2027.
Stay for the closing piromusical, music and fireworks on the beaches.

Fiesta de los Patios, Córdoba
- Where: Córdoba, Andalusia
- 2027 dates: May 3 to 16, 2027; May Crosses, April 28 to May 2; Córdoba Fair, May 22 to 29
- Tickets: the competing patios are free to enter
- Official site: patios.cordoba.es
For the two weeks of the Patios festival in May, Córdoba's families open courtyards hung with pots of flowers to anyone who walks in. UNESCO added the festival to its intangible heritage list in 2012.
May in Córdoba holds three festivals in a row: flower-covered crosses in the squares before the patios, and the city's fair after them. If you can come for only one of the three, pick the patios, the one on UNESCO's list.
Use the map on the official site, which lists each patio by route, and walk one route in the morning and another in the evening.

Aste Nagusia, Bilbao
- Where: Bilbao, Basque Country
- 2027 dates: August 21 to 29, 2027 (expected: nine days from the Saturday after August 15)
- Official site: Spain's tourism board
In late August, Bilbao's Big Week, Aste Nagusia, opens when Marijaia appears on a balcony of the Arriaga Theatre. She is a giant figure with her arms in the air. Nine days of concerts, fireworks and Basque rural sports such as wood chopping and stone carrying follow.
Concerts and fireworks spread over Plaza Nueva, the Arenal wharf and the squares around the old town. The Vista Alegre bullring holds a run of bullfights during the week.
Be outside the Arriaga Theatre on the first Saturday, when the opening rocket goes up. La Tomatina falls inside the same nine days, so a late-August trip has two festivals to choose between.

Feria del Caballo, Jerez de la Frontera
- Where: González Hontoria park, Jerez de la Frontera
- 2027 dates: April 24 to May 1, 2027, earlier than its usual May
- Tickets: the casetas are open to the public
- Official site: Jerez tourism
Unlike in Seville, the casetas at Jerez's horse fair are open to the public. From April 24 to May 1, 2027, hundreds of riders and horse carriages fill González Hontoria park. Show jumping, dressage and carriage-driving contests run beside the casetas.
The 2027 fair is earlier than its usual May, so check any date you read elsewhere. Go on to Jerez after the Feria de Abril: its fair starts six days after Seville's ends.
Watch the riders and carriages parade through the park by day, then drink sherry and dance sevillanas in a caseta at night. Bullfights and fireworks round off the program.

Fiestas del Apóstol, Santiago de Compostela
- Where: Santiago de Compostela, Galicia
- 2027 dates: July 25, 2027, a Holy Year; fireworks on the night of July 24; festivities through the second half of July
- Official site: Santiago tourism
The feast of St James falls on a Sunday in 2027, which makes it a Holy Year in Santiago de Compostela. In a Holy Year the cathedral opens its Holy Door, which stays shut in other years.
The night of July 24 brings fireworks and projections on the cathedral façade in the Obradoiro square. At the solemn mass on the 25th, the botafumeiro (the cathedral's huge incense burner) swings over the congregation.
Book Santiago early for any date in 2027. If you want to arrive on foot, the 7-day Camino de Santiago itinerary ends in the city.

Plan your Spain trip →Music festivals in Spain
Spain's big summer music festivals run from early June to mid-July. Jerez holds a two-week flamenco festival in late winter.
| Festival | Where | 2027 dates | Music |
|---|---|---|---|
| Primavera Sound | Parc del Fòrum, Barcelona | June 3 to 5 | indie, pop, electronic |
| Bilbao BBK Live | Kobetamendi hill, Bilbao | July 8 to 10 | rock, indie, pop; campsite |
| FIB | Benicàssim, Castellón | July 15 to 17 | pop, rock, indie |
| Festival de Jerez | Jerez de la Frontera | February 19 to March 6 | flamenco dance |
| International Festival of Music and Dance | the Alhambra, Granada | June to July, not yet published | classical, flamenco |
All of them need a paid pass or ticket. Pick Primavera Sound if you want a city break with the festival, since it runs at Parc del Fòrum in Barcelona. BBK Live sits on a hill above Bilbao with its own campsite, and FIB is a beach-town festival.
Sónar, Barcelona's electronic music festival in June, is a question mark for 2027. In late October 2026 its website was replaced by a book of condolences dated 1994 to 2026, with no 2027 dates, so check sonar.es.
Spain's public holidays in 2027
Spain's 2027 public holidays are the nine national days below, plus Holy Thursday, Easter Monday and other days that each region sets. Check opening hours before you plan a day of sightseeing on one.
| Date | Holiday | Where |
|---|---|---|
| January 1 | New Year's Day | All of Spain |
| January 6 | Epiphany (Three Kings) | All of Spain |
| March 25 | Holy Thursday | Every region except Catalonia and Valencia |
| March 26 | Good Friday | All of Spain |
| March 29 | Easter Monday | Catalonia, Valencia, the Balearic Islands, the Basque Country, Navarre and La Rioja |
| May 1 | Labor Day | All of Spain |
| August 16 | Assumption (August 15 is a Sunday) | Six regions, among them Andalusia, Madrid and the Canary Islands |
| October 12 | Spain's National Day | All of Spain (the Pilar festival in Zaragoza) |
| November 1 | All Saints' Day | All of Spain |
| December 6 | Constitution Day | All of Spain |
| December 8 | Immaculate Conception | All of Spain |
| December 25 | Christmas Day | All of Spain |
The list is the official 2027 calendar published by the government in October 2026. Each town also adds up to two local holidays of its own, often its fiesta days: Seville's are April 14 for the Feria and May 27 for Corpus Christi. The long weekends of 2027 are January 1 to 3, Easter (March 25 to 28), October 30 to November 1 and December 4 to 8, so book trains and rooms early for them.
Plan a trip around a Spanish festival
Holy Week and the Feria both suit the 7-day southern Spain itinerary, based in Seville. Around San Isidro, the 3-day Madrid itinerary covers the rest of the city, and the 4-day Barcelona itinerary does the same around La Mercè. The Spain travel guide covers how long to stay and how to get around. The month pages for February, March, April, May and July put Spain's festivals next to the rest of Europe that month.
Pick your festival dates, and the MonkeyEatingMango planner writes the days around them, with a time and a cost on every stop.

Common questions
What is the most famous festival in Spain?
La Tomatina, the tomato fight in Buñol, is the Spanish festival travelers know best. San Fermín in Pamplona, Las Fallas in Valencia and Semana Santa (Holy Week) follow close behind.
When is La Tomatina 2027?
La Tomatina is held on the last Wednesday of August, so the 2027 battle is expected on August 25, from noon to 1 pm. Buñol has published only its 2026 date so far, August 26, 2026. You need a ticket: entry was capped at 22,000 people in 2026.
When is San Fermín 2027?
San Fermín runs from noon on July 6 to midnight on July 14, 2027, in Pamplona. The bull runs start at 8 am every morning from July 7 to 14 and last about three minutes each.
Is it safe to run with the bulls in Pamplona?
Runners and bystanders are injured at San Fermín every year, and deaths are rare but have happened: 15 since 1910. To watch rather than run, stand behind the barricades, rent a balcony or take a seat in the bullring. The bulls that run each morning are killed in that afternoon's bullfight.
When is Semana Santa 2027?
Semana Santa (Holy Week) 2027 runs from Palm Sunday, March 21, to Easter Sunday, March 28. Good Friday, March 26, is a national public holiday, and Holy Thursday, March 25, is a holiday everywhere except Catalonia and the Valencia region.
When is the Feria de Abril 2027?
Seville's April Fair runs from April 13 to 18, 2027, with the lights switched on the night of April 12. The city has fixed April 14 as its Feria holiday. The fair falls early because Easter is early: it follows two weeks after Holy Week.
When are Las Fallas 2027?
Las Fallas fill Valencia from March 15 to 19, 2027, and the monuments burn on the night of March 19. Fallas events start on March 1 with the daily 2 pm mascletà in Plaza del Ayuntamiento.
Are festivals in Spain free?
Most Spanish street festivals are free to watch and join, including San Fermín, Semana Santa, the Córdoba patios and the Cádiz carnival in the street. La Tomatina needs a ticket. Bullfights, grandstand seats, some carnival seating and the music festivals are paid.
How far ahead should I book a room for a festival in Spain?
For Semana Santa in Seville, San Fermín, Las Fallas and the Feria de Abril, book six months to a year ahead. Book later and you pay more, since prices rise as the dates approach.
What is the best month to visit Spain for festivals?
March to May holds the most big festivals: Las Fallas and Semana Santa in March 2027, the Feria de Abril and the Jerez Horse Fair in April, and Córdoba's patios in May. Summer brings San Fermín, La Tomatina and the music festivals.
What are the public holidays in Spain in 2027?
Spain's nine national holidays in 2027 are January 1 and 6, Good Friday (March 26), May 1, October 12, November 1, and December 6, 8 and 25. August 15 falls on a Sunday, so six regions take Monday, August 16, off. Each region adds its own days, such as Holy Thursday or Easter Monday, and each town adds up to two local ones.
