14-day Philippines trip — Cebu City to Ubud to Seminyak. Day-by-day route, attractions & food.
Part one
Is this trip for you?
Cebu + Bali over El Nido + Jakarta: This itinerary blends the Philippines' Spanish-influenced history and island adventures from Cebu with Bali's unique Hindu culture, rice terraces, and beach scene. Cebu offers colonial heritage and accessible marine life, a different character from Palawan's raw limestone karsts. Bali contrasts ancient spiritual traditions of Ubud with Seminyak's modern beach vibe, a depth Jakarta's urban sprawl cannot match.

📅 Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Ubud and Seminyak is during the dry season, from April to October. This period offers abundant sunshine, lower humidity, and minimal rainfall, with average temperatures around 26-30°C. May, June, and September are ideal shoulder months, providing great weather with slightly fewer crowds than the peak months of July and August, or the Christmas/New Year period. The wet season (November to March) brings higher humidity and frequent, short tropical downpours, though sunnier days are still common.
Part two
The plan, day by day
14-day trip
This journey prioritizes a diverse island experience, blending colonial history and marine adventures in Cebu with Bali's distinct Hindu culture, lush landscapes, and beach relaxation. It skips Palawan's dramatic limestone karsts and the world-class island hopping of El Nido entirely, so you miss those iconic hidden lagoons and secluded beaches. Also absent are Java's ancient wonders like Borobudur's massive Buddhist stupa and the intricate Hindu temples of Prambanan, offering a different scale of historical grandeur than found in Bali.
Manila's historical walled city of Intramuros and its museums are also omitted. Add 3 days to extend your exploration from Cebu to Moalboal, where you can easily snorkel with millions of sardines forming massive bait balls just offshore, an unparalleled natural spectacle, or experience the adrenaline of canyoneering and cliff diving into the turquoise waters of Kawasan Falls. This adds zero extra transit days as Moalboal is a direct drive from Cebu City, enhancing your adventure and wildlife interests significantly.
This itinerary follows a balanced pace — intense sightseeing days alternate with recovery days for rest and spontaneous exploration. Want a different pace? Create a custom version with your preferences.

Before you go
Traffic-heavy cities; scooters common in Bali, TransJakarta in Jakarta
Gojek and Grab are essential for getting around. Rent a scooter in Bali (international license needed).
- Always negotiate prices for unmetered taxis and scooter rides *before* getting in; for fixed fares, use Gojek or Grab apps in Seminyak and central Ubud.
- Exchange currency at reputable money changers like BMC, PT Central Kuta, or banks; avoid street vendors offering unusually high rates to prevent short-changing scams.
- Be highly cautious around the monkeys in Ubud Monkey Forest; secure all loose items like glasses, hats, and jewelry, and avoid direct eye contact or aggressive movements to prevent theft or bites.
- Use Gojek or Grab for reliable and safer transport in Seminyak, especially at night, as they provide fixed prices and driver tracking, unlike many unmetered street taxis.
- If renting a scooter, ensure you possess an international driving permit, wear a helmet, and verify your travel insurance covers motorcycle accidents, as police frequently check documents and road conditions are poor.
- Drink only bottled water (brands like Aqua or Vit) and avoid tap water, even for brushing teeth, to prevent stomach issues.
- Book popular activities like yoga classes at The Yoga Barn or cooking schools in Ubud at least 2-3 days in advance during peak season to secure a spot.
- When visiting temples, always carry a sarong and sash, or be prepared to rent one for Rp 10,000-20,000 at the entrance, to cover your knees and shoulders.
- 1Lightweight, breathable clothing (cotton, linen)
- 2Swimsuits (multiple pairs)

Visa & Entry Requirements
US, EU, UK, Australia, and Canadian citizens can obtain a Visa-on-Arrival (VOA) for 30 days upon entry, extendable once for another 30 days. The VOA costs IDR 500,000 (approx. US$35) and can be purchased at Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) or online via the official e-VOA portal before arrival. Indian citizens also qualify for a VOA with the same conditions. All passports must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended date of departure.

Free Wi-Fi is widely available and reliable in most hotels, villas, cafes, and restaurants throughout Ubud and Seminyak. Look for signs or ask staff for the password. Dedicated internet cafes are less common but still exist in some areas.
Useful Apps
Ensure your mobile phone is unlocked to use a local Indonesian SIM card. Public telephone booths are practically non-existent in Bali, so mobile phones are your primary means of communication. While coverage is generally good, it can be inconsistent in very remote areas.

Most major nationalities, including US, EU, UK, Australia, Canada, and India, can obtain a Visa-on-Arrival (VOA) for 30 days, extendable once for another 30 days. The VOA costs approximately US$35. You can get it at Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) upon arrival or apply for an e-VOA online before your trip. Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your planned departure date.
From Ngurah Rai Airport (DPS), you can take a pre-booked private car, which is recommended for comfort and ease. A taxi or ride-hailing app like Grab or Gojek will also take you to Seminyak (30-60 minutes, Rp 150,000-250,000) or Ubud (60-90 minutes, Rp 300,000-450,000). Always confirm the fare before departing if not using an app.
Bali is generally considered very safe for solo female travelers. Both Ubud and Seminyak are popular and well-touristed areas. However, always exercise normal precautions: use Gojek or Grab for rides, especially at night, ensure good lighting on paths, and be aware of your belongings in crowded areas like markets or beach clubs. Avoid unlit areas and always inform someone of your itinerary.
In Seminyak, Gojek and Grab are readily available for affordable motorcycle or car rides. Walking is also feasible in central areas, though footpaths can be poor. In Ubud, walking around the town center is pleasant, but for longer distances or exploring outside the center, Gojek/Grab, private drivers, or rented scooters (with proper license and insurance) are common choices.
While major hotels, restaurants, and larger shops in Ubud and Seminyak accept credit cards (Visa, Mastercard), many local warungs, market stalls, and smaller shops are cash-only. It's always wise to carry Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) cash for everyday purchases, especially in Ubud. ATMs are widely available, but use reputable ones, preferably inside bank branches, to avoid skimming.
Yes, always dress modestly when visiting temples, ensuring your knees and shoulders are covered (sarongs and sashes are often provided or can be rented). Use your right hand when interacting with people or handling food. Never touch someone's head. When bargaining in markets, do so politely and with a friendly demeanor.
Pack lightweight, breathable clothing suitable for tropical weather, swimwear, and comfortable slip-on sandals. Essential items include reef-safe sunscreen, strong mosquito repellent, a sarong for temple visits, and a small daypack. A light rain jacket or poncho is advisable, especially during the wet season. Carrying a portable power bank and some emergency cash is also recommended.
Tipping is not mandatory or traditionally expected in Bali, but it is certainly appreciated for good service. Many restaurants include a service charge in the bill. If not, leaving a small tip of Rp 10,000-20,000 (about $0.60-$1.30) for restaurant staff, spa therapists, or hotel porters is a kind gesture. For taxi drivers, you can simply round up the fare.
